The Institute for Experimental Medicine (IEM)
Istanbul University the Institute for Experimental Medicine (IEM), dedicated solely to medical research, is one of the first and largest biomedical research institutes in Turkey, which was established in 1945. The institute encompasses the departments of Genetics, Immunology, Molecular Medicine, Neuroscience, Experimental Animal Biology and Biomedical Application Techniques, along with Molecular Tuberculosis Epidemiology Laboratory, Diabetes Application and Research Center, Rare Disease Unit, Whole Genome Sequencing Laboratory and Hulusi Behcet Center of Life Sciences.
The institute’s aim is to undertake innovative biomedical research, provide high level graduate education, differential molecular diagnostic services and to unveil molecular mechanisms of human disorders by combining many medical disciplines with the ultimate goal of ameliorating the quality of human life.
The Institute’s vision is to become one of the world’s most pre-eminent research institutions by conducting competitive international projects in medical sciences through development of novel approaches for the prevention and diagnosis of common human diseases.
